Book Closure

A window during which a company closes (freezes) its shareholder register to determine exactly who is eligible for an upcoming dividend, bonus, or rights issue.

When a company announces a dividend or rights issue, it needs a fixed snapshot of who its shareholders are on a given date — the book closure period is when the share transfer register is frozen for that purpose.

To be eligible, you generally need to hold (and have the trade settled in) the stock before the book closure start date — buying on or after that date typically means you won't receive that particular dividend or rights entitlement.
