Face Value (Par Value)

The nominal par value printed on a share certificate — commonly Rs. 10 for PSX-listed companies — used as the base for how dividends are conventionally announced.

Face value is fixed at listing and has no direct relationship to a stock's current market price, which fluctuates with trading. Almost all PSX companies use a Rs. 10 face value, though a few legacy listings differ.

The PSX convention is to announce dividends as a percentage of face value rather than a rupee amount or a percentage of market price — a "50% dividend" on a Rs. 10 face value share means Rs. 5 per share, regardless of what the stock is currently trading at. StockPulse converts this into a market-price-based dividend yield for comparability (see Dividend Yield).
